Macau Pavilion at World Expo 2010

Exhibition

By adopting in the design an innovation mix of real objects, images, photos, physical production and multimedia presentations with the use of over 100 projectors, multiple-layer exhibits are created, contributing to a lively and fascinating presentation of the content and an enriched viewing experience for visitors.

The storyline for the exhibition is conceived as a small boy and his neighbour girl led by the boy’s father on a search of the magic “Rabbit Lantern” as a fantastical journey through the history of Macau. The story is told through exhibits displayed along a spiral ramp structure spanning six levels of the Pavilion. Descending from the top to bottom of the ramp, visitors will experience the development of Macau from a small port some 400 years ago to a vibrant city and world-class entertainment hub with unique cultures.

The exhibition bewilders visitors from beginning to end through stunning 360 degree multimedia projections on a 530 sq m screen encircling the 6-level atrium; the amazing effect of the main characters “stepping in and out” of different sets of exhibits; synchronised projections masterfully combined with relief works; and elaborate laser-cut graphics turning a giant aluminum mural into a stylish work of art.

At the end of the tour is a tunnel with mirror-covered ceiling and side walls producing infinite reflections of the ceiling projections of fireworks and bonfires symbolising, not the end of a journey, but a beckon to start a new one — to Macau, a city of endless excitement.

This project is a Red Dot Award winner (2010).
