A showcase on printing industry as part of the Hong Kong Pavilion, an exhibition held at London’s Royal Horticultural Hall by the Hong Kong Government to promote Hong Kong’s creative industries in Britain.
Paper, as the essential element for printing, was adopted as the major component of the design. Inspired by the shape of a piece of rolled-up paper, a tunnel structure is created by wrapping medium-density fiber glass around a steel frame. The inside of the tunnel is spray-painted as a blue sky while programmed lights create a dawn-to-dusk effect highlighting the permanence and durability of printed materials. The surface extends onto the floor to form a platform of which one corner is curled up to serve ingeniously as an enquiry counter and also provided a visual link with the interior by revealing the same blue-sky background.
