HKHS Exhibition Centre

Interior

Covering an area of 200 square metres, the first event Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) Exhibition Centre was open in 2018 with an aim to promote the past, present and future of housing development and showcasing its mission and roles as a “housing laboratory”. Apart from guided tours for students and community groups, this also serves as a platform for visitors to exchange views and an interactive learning platform for Liberal Studies education on local housing development. To tie in with the wide range of audience, Oval Design created a playful digital approach to convey the evolution of housing needs, housing development milestones and future mission in three designated zones.

The first zone tactfully uses videos to portray the evolution of rental estates with a communal wall to display hundreds of old photos to capture the footprints of old days. With Virtual Reality facilities, visitors can travel back in time to experience the housing conditions in old days. The second zone focuses on the housing shortages and aging population problems. By means of the virtual reality technology, different elderly housing projects pioneered by HKHS are presented to visitors and showcase the elderly-friendly home designs. Besides, a ‘Housing Ladder’ activated by motion detected sensor is available for visitors to browse through 180 degree of the rental and subsidised sale projects. By doing so, it’s hoped to inspire insights and dialogues among visitors on issues related to housing development and ageing population through the interesting and interactive exhibits. In zone 3, visitors are invited to share their thoughts on future sustainable community through a digital display panel after learning HS’s different housing projects built over the years in a multitouch digital table.
